Postgame Quotes

Texas

Head Coach Augie Garrido
Opening statement ...
"When you win one of these, a lot of things go through your mind besides the game. I hope everyone here realizes how proud and special these guys are. Not only did they win the national championship, they also represented the school and university with pride and dignity. They redefine the word team, and this game will probably redefine their lives. They're the very best at what they're doing today. This national championship went to a group that really deserves it. We knew we had a chance, but so did a lot of other teams."

On starting Chris Carmichael ...
"I was sitting in the dugout before the game after batting practice, and it was all about (Chris') attitude. That position in the batting order hadn't been producing. Chris has had a lot of success in his background. I felt good about it. It was just an intuition. He came out and recognized what he could give to them team and did it. I knew he would play hard."

Starting pitcher Justin Simmons
On his two starts here in Omaha ...
"I had a couple rough outings in the regional and super regional, but that's part of baseball. As coach said, that's why you play on a team. When I was struggling, my teammates picked me up. When one guy goes down, others pick us up. It's the story of our season."

Relief pitcher Huston Street
On his four saves in the College World Series ...
"It just kind of happened, as I came into some close games. I kept praying we'd be up 10-2 and there wouldn't be any save opportunities. Our team has picked me up in every save opportunities. These are all things that contribute to me being successful."

Left fielder Chris Carmichael
On getting the start assignment today ...
"Coming into today, I felt good and I felt like I was having fun -- during batting practice and after batting practice especially. I don't know what it was. I thought I'd take this good feeling into the game. I was happy I was able to play and contribute."

Third baseman Omar Quintanilla
On winning the national championship ...
"It's the most unbelievable feeling I've ever felt. I wanted to hug everybody after the game for giving me the feeling I felt."

South Carolina

Head Coach Ray Tanner
Opening statement ...
"Congratulations to coach Augie Garrido and the University of Texas. Texas has tremendous players from their pitchers all the way through their lineup. They deserve to be national champions today. We had some opportunities during the game. We didn't play our best today, but don't take anything away from Texas."

On South Carolina starting pitcher Aaron Rawl on three days rest ...
"Aaron said he felt great and he's in great physical shape. I thought he threw very well today. We had a couple of plays we didn't make behind him. Aaron had a great start today. He threw very good today."

On city of Omaha and first appearance at CWS ...
"I can't say enough about the city of Omaha. It's everything you dream about and more. I guess I made too big a deal about coming here. But I said I wouldn't come here unless it was a team. This was a wonderful experience. I can't imagine another NCAA championship being better than the College World Series."

Center fielder Justin Harris
On wind ...
" It was windy for a few days. I've never played in wind like this. The wind was very tricky. I thought they called Chicago the Windy City, but I think it's (Omaha) Nebraska."

First baseman Yaron Peters
On eighth inning at-bat ...
"I was thinking one thing in the (batter's) box, that I could drive it over the fence. After that at-bat I thought I shouldn't have done that. He (Texas pitcher Huston Street) threw me a slider that was up that I shouldn't have tried to pull, and I swung through it."

Starting pitcher Aaron Rawl
On his experience at CWS ...
"It's been a great experience and I've had a loot of fun. We've got a lot of good players coming in next year and a lot of good players returning for next year. Hopefully, we'll be back."
